EDLD 5301 Week 2 Reflection

Week two's assignment allowed me to get a solid foundation for my action research project. The conference with my site supervisor/Assistant Principal and the head Principal regarding topics of interest for action research was very productive. Both administrators had many ideas that would be beneficial to our campus and seemed extremely enthusiastic about my upcoming project. They wanted to assure me that they were available to assist in any way with the project.

After lots of discussion, we all agreed upon an action research project that examines factors that motivate teachers to become more engaged in their profession while boosting teacher morale. This was the top choice mainly because we all have notices a recent drop in teacher morale which seems to be leading to less engaged teachers. Ultimately, if this issue is left unaddressed, student achievement will began to decline as well.

I really enjoyed viewing the scholar interviews as well. I learned from Dr. Chargois’ interview that teachers should never stop learning. Also, teachers can no longer just be taught teacher pedagogy and content. Teacher preparation and professional development should include how to use data and action research to impact student success. I learned from Dr. Kirk Lewis’ interview that when you are deciding on a topic of action research, you should always keep in mind what is practical for you and what is it you need to know in order to apply it directly to student learning in the environment that you are examining.
